We grow an artificial sapphire coating on the Black Hawk & Black Swan… it has a hardness of 9.0 on the Mohs scale (second only to diamond). The surface molecules align themselves in a crystal structure of Al2O3. We dye the surface with a black organic dye that penetrates the top layers of molecules, and seal it against UV fading.
